yet another 'brilliant' charity 'effort'..

the show started at 7pm.
the cause - to aid cancer patients.
it went on for more than 3 hours..the network had to replace the usual 30min news at10 to a very short 'new-in-brief'..
the whole thing reeked of desperation.
a desperate scam to do more than raise funds for cancer patients.
it's such a predictable silly affair everytime ch8 'artistes' get together to raise funds for charity.
it's become a show to promote stars instead of a charity performance. it's disgusting.
a stupid popularity thing.

here are some of the highlights (of whatever little bits i watched) of last night's show :

1) when tay ping hui & wat's his name..ohh..allan wu..did their strong man thing..
they apparently had metal chains? wrapped around their bodies which they had to use their oooo strong man strenth to break loose? goodness..i have nothing against the guys but it's a plain stupid stunt. i mean..WHY?!@ it's not v macho..the wires look so thin? i couldn't watch it for fear that they might get sliced..?
ergh.. i didn't know how the stunt turned out but i think they were unhurt
but i did hear that some members of the audience laughed..hmm...why am i not surpriseD?
it's silly laaa

2) the worse segment of the show.. when some local singer called ocean who has a not bad voice but never shows his face and is only represented by a cartoon - a flat faced no nosed small eyes square faced cartoon...came out to sing.
i heard recently that he was gonna unveil himself in an up coming concert..which i thought had happened already but based on what i saw last night...hasn't taken place yet.
as the host was presenting him..i thought he was really gonna show his precious face but
nooo... we were all misled..
coz he was on stage in person alright..BUT he sat behind this screen.
FABULOUS. you could only see his legs..the rest of him was hiding behind the screen.
how silly is that?? you can't even see a clear silhouette of him coz the screen is like ridged?!
i don't get that. why the secrecy? and mr ocean even said he was supposed to be unveil at this certain date but he's here now doing this..all for charity..what a line?
even if he really did mean that..the organisers of the show could have done a classier segment for him?
like put him COMPLETELY behind a white screen instead of showing half his body? and try to recreate a black and white scene from one of his videos?

3) the 'queen of caldecott hill' (oooo ahhhh) indian dance/nail bed walk
that was quite a desperate i thought.. although she deserves some credit was walking cross beds of nails
but it seemed like she was trying to regain her popularity after taking time off acting to have her baby.. and trying to show the rest of singapore that she's skinny again and that her extr!m endorsement was for real.. and to tell singaporeans she's still 'queen'
coz she was decked out in this midriff revealing red outfit.. being carried on a platform but 4 guys while trying to execute sexy fluid movements.. and there was ALOT of focus on her stomach.. ok whatever..
anything for 'the queen' i guess..

4) i heard that there was plenty of appearances by the recent channel u project superstar winner. he sings well yes..but once again..its so typical. it's that "you're hot now..i'm gonna make full use of your current popularity then toss you aside once a new media darling is found" kind of mentality that mediacorp if sooooo famous for... the brutality of showbiz..
just look at taufik..wasn't he also featured everywhere after he was crowned singapore idol? charity shows..national day..the bloody idiotic singapore idol sitcom..but where is he now?

5) one of the last items..i think? a group item thing involving poles..
yes the one with the bloody ugly white attire with splashes of very bright shades of green..that looked suspiciously like the costumes worn at another charity event..
one doesn't just forget a ghastly costume like that...
anyways.. that was such a scam.. well parts of it
the artistes did stunts on the poles.. actually i didn't watch the whole thing coz i was watching the apprentice on the other channel but i heard from my sis that alot of the stunts was just wire work. as in it was physically not possible for one to support oneself completely horizontal off a vertical pole with both arms fully extended out straight.
it is just NOT POSSIBLE. even if you're really really strong..it's just not possible coz there's no way you can support yourself so effortlessly with your hands.
*sigh
when will this stupidity end??

6) the pained look of various artiste as they were performing.. and when they are asking for people to call after their stunts.. and how they always use the same lines..
"yes we suffer while doing these stunts and we've had our fair share of mishaps during rehearsals..but that little bit of pain and hardship is nothing compared to the kind of pain the patients have to go through..so please show them your support by calling these numbers 1900 xxx xxxx la la blah..." *tear
no matter if it's truly a physically demanding/dangerous stunt or a tamer less demanding stunt.. It's the same speech repeated with the same kind of pained face..
oh please..
is that really the way to appeal for donations?

stuff on my mind..

just some random and completely unrelated thoughts..

1) Ryan Cabrera is a f**king rip off of Howie Day! it bugs the heck out of me when ryan fans declare that howie is a copy of ryan! ergh..
yes it's true that they are somewhat alike in terms of their image (the similarities end there..)but.. the whole guitar playing singer songwriter thing..and the hair..ergh..the first time i saw ryan cabrera hair..i told my sis "oh my goodness he overdid the howie day hair!"
the least they can do is get their facts right? oh maybe they're just not capable..coz that would just bring their world (that possibly only revolves around their beautifully talented ryan ) crashing down when they find out that..ohh my god..his image...isn't orginal!!?!

i just realised that i sound so juvenile..goodness..
the point is i'm not a cabrera fan if you haven't already noticed..and i just think it's a huge pity that good music isn't appreciated enough locally..instead the locals idolised crap or mediocre bands/singers. ryan cabrera is a good example..he's a guitar playing singer songwriter..so? i don't think he's good..his music is forgettable. but yet people like him. what about other similar singers like jason mraz..and damien rice?

it's abit sad


2) the skin around my nose is peeling slightly...it's all coz i've been snotty/sneezy for the last 4 days! ew..i been applying aloe vera on it and sometimes..my mango flavoured lip balm when i don't have any aloe vera and i'm desperate for some coz it looks like my nose has dandruff..


3) i don't think i've mentioned this.. we (as a family) got our 2nd family car almost 2 weeks ago.
yuuuup...which means i've been driving the snazzy little red sirion around since then!
it's quite fun..i've since gotten quite used to the car..i still make silly mistakes but nothing serious..thank goodness! but it's nuts driving on the road really...ALOT of rubbish drivers..who aren't very nic e to new drivers..drivers who don't signal...who tailgate you..highbeam you..horn at you..drive dangerously close to you to change lane..drivers who try to lane change when you're still in the way(!!!!) yea.. my sisters still think i'm aleeeetle reckless..yes i know i am..i think i got that from my dad.. but yes i've also promised to drive as safely as i can everytime


4) we got lost the other day! our first driving mis-adventure! woohooooo!
it was quite an experience for my sis..who was the driver coz i was sick! so yea..we missed turns - we realised that we should be turning only when it's too late. we got on the wrong side of the expressway - yup! we had to go toward changi airport instead of towards our house coz we weren't familiar with the lanes and well..drivers who weren't willing to slow down just a little to let us change lane. it was quite crazy! coz we had to deal with pedestrains who think they own the road and drivers who didn't give way and impatient cabbies..
but we made it home eventually! it was a combined effort - me & my sis -my sis for driving well and me for directing..yay for us!


5) there are so many species of stupid children in my neighbourhood. *sigh*

the 'starers' - those who might die if they don't stare - they make up the majority of the stupid children population in my estate.

the 'carpark skater boys' - a bunch of delinquent boys who like to play around with their skate boards in a multi storey carparks..on the slope that connects between 2 floors.. very smart.

the 'ignorant pain-in-the-asses' - hmm...they're generally scattered all around the estate..appearing at various times of the day and night..usually only concerned with whatever silly thing they're doing.
a recent encounter of mine..involved slowing down the car where a handful of these children were standing about a few metres away..staring at my headlights for several seconds..before deciding to move away from the center of the road to the pavement.
once again..very smart. they think the entire freaking neighbourhood is their playground..
i wonder what the heck their parents tell them..

milk powder & cabbies

monday morning...
i'm sooooo sleepy today..maybe coz i slept so much over the weekend i'm having trouble readjusting to sleeping only 6+ hours! =P

anywaysss..
i'm going rant about 2 things. one is about milk powder (yup..now you must be wondering what the heck i have to say about it huh! ) , the next about a certain 'breed' of cab drivers.

Now..the milk powder story.
it was a few nights ago, i was watching tv in my room when this ad for milk powder came on.

"Enriched with AHA..blah blah blah..aids the growth of your child..blah blah blah..good for brain development..blah blah blah..brainier kids..blah blah"

we didn't use to have such 'enriching-brain-milk'..i mean back when i was teeny tinier..i probably had just normal milk powder with the usual nutrients and whatever.
and how there's THAT..'enriching brain milk'. i think it's a whole lot of crap!
firstly, i don't think it's working much is it now? given that our society is filled with crapass little brats and stupid teenagers who wanna rock like simple plan. where's has all that brain enriching special stuff in milk powders of recent years gone to?! TURD.
secondly, the thought of our future being infested with nerdy, competitive, "i'm singapore's brainiest kid!", kiasu, irritating brats...is quite a nightmare! i don't wanna live in THAT society

ergh. it's the society i'm more bothered by..not the milk powder..
there's so much about this society and its people that i don't like..

on to the next bit..
i was on my way out yesterday to meet our mum for dinner. it was around 7 when we left so we headed out to the back of our house, to the singapore science park to try to hail a cab. we were very casually dressed, in shorts and tees.
so we waited..and waited..and waited..
finally..we spied a cab from a distance..it was one of those mercedes cabs..even though we've had unpleasant experiences travelling with them..we flagged it anyway
as expected..the brilliant driver really lived up to our expectations!!
he didn't freaking stop for us! he just drove on and only stopped further down for a bunch of 4 ladies - OFFICE LADIES..DOLLED UP SKIRTED UP HEELED UP MADE UP WORKING LADIES!
what kind of rubbish behaviour is that?! just coz we're casually dressed he assumed we weren't going anywhere far?! and just caused someone is more "richly" dressed they're going somewhere far?? what kind of stupid logic is that?! if he hadn't been THAT stupid..he would have earned a good 12bux or so for sending us to chinatown.

so there we were..me & my sis..cursing the cabbie like crazy..we were SO tempted to give him the finger when he drove past us..we didn't. we decided it's not very nice and civilised for us to be doing that. so we stuck to cursing - that the girls were going somewhere bloody nearby like holland V where he'll only earn no more than 6bux (inclusive of that extra $1 peak hour charge!) and staring him down.
the bloody idiot...

i did a little search for who owns the bloody mercedes cabs.. apparently, smrt & comfort offers both. smrt's line is called "Prestige"...comfort's line is called "Sovereign Limousine Taxi"
both websites claim these special fleets of taxis are to provide better QUALITY service as well as have a more up market appeal..as their names would suggest..'sovereign' meaning supreme excellence and 'prestige' signifies honour..
MY ASS!

those companies should do something about the drivers of their 'special' fleet. what my sis said that evening was right - it doesn't matter if you drive a mercedes or a toyota..you're STILL a cabbie. most of those drivers have probably forgot that they are supposed to provide a service..even though it's a more luxurious line..THE CHARGES ARE STILL THE SAME so there is no point in being so selective of the 'types' of passengers they ferry. if they continue with their rubbish behaviour..they might as well be 'demoted' to driving toyota crowns coz they don't deserve to be driving around in luxurious cars and spoiling the name of the companies they work for.

*sigh*

someone should probably feed those cabbies with the enriching brain milk eh?
