Can you find the moon?

seriously.
it's apparently a photo of the moon in daylight..almost completely covered by clouds. this picture scares me abit..maybe coz it resembles the sea and i have an irrational fear of open water..

anyway i think i see it but i'm not sure..
can you?

我不要!!

for the last week or so, i've been suffering from jaw pain. soo i finally booked an appointment with the dentist for a check up.
it turns out that..
it's a wisdom tooth problem!

NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

the dentist mentioned extraction and surgery..

NOoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

i'm afraid of the dentist..although i don't have any bad experience..i'm just afraid.
the thought of extraction is just really scary so let's not even talk about surgery.
ew.
it's sick you know.
having a tooth pulled out.
it's not like our baby milk teeth
we're talking about mature 'adult teeth' with roots
yikes.
can you imagine the gap in your gums..
YUCK
i'm grossing myself out
*cries*

how........................................

*sigh*

until i get over the silly fear and the gross hole in gums picture..

i shall have to bear with the discomfort for now..

bleh..

it's stupid isn't it?
i've gone through surgery with partial anesthesia - i had my eyelid cut up/stitched while fully conscious..
but yet i can't make myself go for a simple tooth extraction.

*sigh*

Today in Maid News...

here's a roundup of what has been happening.

last friday and saturday, our dinner was not exactly well done.
she cooked 3 persons share of food..for 5 people on friday and on saturday..oh dear..it got pretty bad. i wasn't home to eat that day but i eventually i had to buy some dessert home to feed my poor family
they had veggie, chicken curry AND bak kut teh
weird eh?
as if that wasn't odd enough..the soup was super peppery..the bag of herbs and spices probably exploded..
and the chicken curry..according to my sisters, it was pastey, super spicy to the point of bitterness and it didn't taste like curry coz she didn't put in any curry leaves. come to think of it..i don't think she even added any coconut milk..
-_-
so sad right?
she says she knows how to cook curry..i think not.
it's either that or she doesn't taste her own cooking..

after 2 days of not particularly fantastic food, my mum gave up and took us all out to dinner.
i don't blame her. she loves curry and she was horrified by the chicken curry attempt. she was disappointed that she didn't bother consulting anyone about the recipe.

i really wonder why she behaves the way she does.
for example, she picked up a call from my mum on sunday to tell her to come downstairs at 6pm with me and my sisters. she hung up the phone and went straight for her room.
i only found out when my mum called again alittle after 6..wondering where we were.

so anyway my mum finally made her decision yesterday.
we're replacing our maid.
it's about time really..coz none of us trust her and nothing she does is making us feel otherwise.

my mum is also convinced she sneaked off to ghim moh again. either that or she genuinely took the loop service bus from the wrong direction, realised her mistake, panicked, got off the bus and boarded the next bus from across the road.
coz yesterday she had to top up the fare card for her and since she was there, she checked the transaction history and found 2 deductions, 20+ minutes apart (one at about 1:30 and the other at 1:50), for trips on the loop service bus last monday. and the odd thing is she remembers that the maid called to inform my mum she was home before 2pm that day.

liar.

guess what?
this whole maid thing has inspired me to write.
it's kinda bad isn't it?
but there is some episode every few days..i really wonder if things can get better.

anyway after what she did yesterday, she sort of redeemed herself by preparing a pretty good dinner for the family. we had fried fish, some veggie with garlic and a very well done chicken with white fungus/button mushroom soup.
she really is quite good at making soup, provided she follows the right instructions

today she decided to cook some dish that involves chicken breast, tomatoes, green peppers and beaten egg. sounds weird to me. she says she got it from a chinese cookbook she got from a maid that lives on the 22nd floor of our block and whose name she doesn't know.
uh-huh..

after some questioning from my mum, various other names came out - our next door neighbour, her maid and the 22nd floor maid's employer

uh-huh..

so who is it?
i wonder why it seems so difficult for her to explain the truth clearly.

so my mum asked her why she needed to borrow some cookbook when we have plenty at home. coz if she did borrow from the nameless 22nd floor maid, that would mean that she left the house..again..without informing my mother.

uh-huh..

so yea after some quizing, i told her to not make the funky chicken dish and just marinate and fry the chicken pieces. coz the other 2 dishes she's cooking tonight is veggie soup with celery and potatos and some tofu with minced pork and radish.
both of which are not exactly little sister friendly. i have to admit she's quite picky but she's actually quite easy to 'feed' once you get to know her.

i think my mum's patience has run out.
she's on the phone with the agent..asking for a recommendation for a new maid.
and she's about to fax a potential maid's biodata over..

wow..i can't believe that within the short span of the few minutes i was typing this, such a huge decision was made.

i wonder what's gonna happen next.

Ooops!

the previous post very long eh..
sorry ahh..i had to vent alittle!
it's a very annoying issue to have to deal with..bleh

Caution! Rant Ahead!

Last month, we got ourselves a new maid. Oh no, it’s not what you think. We were quite happy with our last maid but she wanted to go home to start a family and a business of her own. She worked for us for 9 years so she’s practically family.

So this new maid.
It’s only been just alittle more than a month since she came but there has been so much drama..it’s insane!
She started out fine. She’s definitely not as out going as our previous maid but that’s fine. What matters for us, is that she can help out well with the houseworking and cooking. Both of which she did fine for the first week.

Yep.

She was barely on her second week with us when she did a disappearing act.
I still remember that day very well. it was a Monday – 30th of April. My mum told her not to cook that evening as we were supposed to go for the company’s labour day dinner. Later in the afternoon, we went to pick my little sister up and she commented that she couldn’t find the maid and she was wondering why she’s not there. That was alittle before 2pm.
That was when the mini nightmare started.
My mum had to call home every few minutes and she has to notify the maid agency. There must have been countless missed calls. She could barely concentrate at work.

By 430pm, there was still no word so I eventually had to drive her home to check up on stuff. We reached home at around 5pm and we searched the house to check if anything was amiss. Nothing seemed out of place. I was slightly relieved she didn’t bolt with her belongings or any of our valuables. My mum later approached our neighbour but they hadn’t seen her either. After yet another phone call to the maid agency and a chat with the neighbours and their maid – we found out that our maid has complained that she gets bored and moody. We would have stayed on and waited till she finally decided to come home but we had to leave coz of the dinner. So we left our contact no. with the neighbour and headed back to Woodlands.

At around 615, our neighbour called to tell us our maid is back.
She was gone for more than 4 hours!
My mum called back and gave her a HUGE scolding. Apparently she went to meet her cousin in Ghim Moh. Ya great. Without even telling my mother?!
I mean she wasn’t even smart enough to sneak out AFTER my little sis came home and left, and then quickly rush back home. And the best thing about it was her excuse.
She said she took the wrong bus and headed the wrong direction.
Well the only bus that goes from our place to ghim moh..is a loop service. So even if she got on the wrong direction, she will eventually find herself back home.

My mum was furious and she refused to speak to her further.

Some of you may think that we probably got rid of her after such an episode.
But no, we gave her another chance. Coz my mum can be very soft hearted, especially when she found out our maid is here to work so that she can give her daughter a better education.

So ok fine. Give her another chance.
But then.
All of us have already lost whatever trust we had for her in the first place.

So anyway, a week or 2 passed and my sisters started to complain alittle about her cooking. Her favourite dish to cook was chicken with gravy. Almost every other day it’ll be chicken and gravy. And her favourite veggie to cook is bean sprouts.
She’s generally a very very blur person that doesn’t retain information well.
Like there was this one Sunday when my mum told her to cook peanut soup with chicken feet. She reminded her several times to add garlic..add garlic..not onions.
And guess what we had for dinner?
Peanut soup with chicken feet with onions and no trace of garlic.
Man..that was some odd tasting fusion soup.

Then came her other so called problem. She’s not very good at communicating.
She was once told to fry some chicken fillet for dinner but the end result was chicken with gravy. Apparently we didn’t have any chicken fillet so she decided to just cook her favourite dish without checking with the sisters if they mind having that instead.

She’s a very hardworking person – she’s forever cleaning something in the house.
But when it comes to being flexible and planning for what to cook and stuff..she really isn’t very good at it lor. When she first arrived, she was always reading cook books at night but I don’t see where all that reading has gone to. She hasn’t tried anything new.

Plus my mum never fails to get agitated when she speaks to her on the phone. Especially when she has to practically coach her step by step what dishes she should cook and what weird combinations (ie minced pork with cabbage) NOT to cook.

So last Saturday, we brought the maid back to the agency for a talk.
It was pretty bad. The agency ladies were not amused. Scolded her..a lot. Even I felt uncomfortable. at the end of the whole thing, we still gave her one more chance.
She has to improve or we’re sending her back. Even the agency ladies agreed she’s not very intelligent and not very quick thinking.

It’s a horrible situation really. We are all trying to be nice and give her a chance but we don’t trust her at all. I told the boyfriend the other day that I honestly don’t see her working the full 2 years with us.

And today.
I still stick to that notion.
Coz she did something ridiculous again.

She goes to the wet market in ghim moh once every week to buy the week’s groceries. My mum told her to call before she leaves and call again when she gets home.
Today. My sis called at 11am to say the maid is not around. Some groceries have been left at the sink and she’s nowhere to be found.
Again.
She finally appeared at about 1130.
The first thing she said to my sis was ‘I forgot the chicken’

Huh?!

She apparently went to buy chicken, paid for it and forgot to bring it back.
Right.
It could be the honest truth but we don’t trust her so it’s very hard to believe that. I told my mum not to call home and see if she will call my mum.

She didn’t call when she went out.
She didn’t call when she came back.
She didn’t call when she found out she forgot the chicken.
She didn’t call even after she got back.

She apparently spoke to the agency lady. And she sounded apologetic.
Is that enough? I don’t think so.
Who is she supposed to answer to?
My mother, her employer? Or her agent?
It’s quite obvious isn’t it?

Where is the explanation my mother deserves?

Goodness.

I wanted to give her another chance but despite all her commendable efforts and efficient housekeeping..she has some really questionable behaviour and I don’t think one or two scolding can change.

She had this weird practice of waking my little sis up earlier than her usual 6am wakeup call (by my mum) just to ask her what she wants to eat. We thought that silly thing stopped after my mum told her off.
But today. Yes today. Lots of things seem to be happening today.
She apparently tried to wake my sis up again. This time she just poked her. Yep. I don’t know why. She just did. And it wasn’t to ask her what to eat.
Weird.

So tell me.
Should we still give her a chance?
I find that all our patience has run out.
I know for sure my little sis is not particularly a fan and she would probably request for a new maid or none at all if she could have her way.

LG : Life's Good............MY ASS!

while on my way out yesterday for yoga..i decided to make a quick detour to the LG service center at Leng Kee to pick up 2 washing nets/filters for the washing machine.
my mum has been nagging for one of us to drive by to buy them, since our existing net broke.
anyway i didn't think buying 2 nets will take very long. besides, it was 30mins to closing time. so i got there..parked illegally by the road and ran to the building.

i was later directed to take a queue number (which was next in line) after telling the receptionist what i was here for. there was no one else there so i was quite confident i could buy the stuff and still make it in time for my 530 class.
i was sooo wrong.
there were 3 customer service officers and they looked pretty free.
i expected to be called up soon after i got my number but after pacing around for awhile..one of the staff asked if i was here to get my mobile phone fixed
i said 'no'
she went about doing whatever it is she was doing. while her colleague beside her continued to look bored and stared into space. the third staff looked genuinely busy..sorting through some paperwork.
after about 5mins of pacing..i gave up!

i just didn't have enough time to wait for one of them to finally decide to serve me, wait for them to go to the store to get me my washing nets, make payment then drive to orchard and not be late for my class.thank goodness i did coz i made it just in time for the class.

there was no queue, there was an available customer service officer but yet i had to wait for no apparent reason!

ok i have to admit i was very 'kan cheong' (anxious) that day so my patience was practically non-existent but then!

what's their excuse??

Matching SHOES!

that's me and the sisters..we like to do that quite alot
buy matching clothes/shoes
and if you can tell from the pic..we like to dress similarly as well
- dark coloured 3/4 pants
it's just something we do..just for fun!
we don't wear identical pieces of clothing though..that would be just boring =p
