miss singapore universe 2006

if anyone caught the miss singapore universe pageant last night on ch5..
you might agree with me when i say it is one bloody f**ked up competition.

there was so much hype this year about the contestants being graduates and all. one would expect lotsa articulate, charming & witty ladies.
but NOOooo..
most of them are just fluff.

like geraldine loo, ms car model.
yikes. she who declared pussycat dolls' song 'Don't cha' best represents her personality coz
she's 'hot'
alright..whatever you say ms loo..whatever you say.. -_-!

the fluffiest one of all (based on last night's show)would probable be this one candy-voiced miss, andrea teo. she looks like that girl..i forgot her name..she was famous for being a bikini babe..the one who appeared in 'eye for a guy', the first season.
big smile..long hair..doesn't think much..

anway..during the question & answer round..
she was asked to justify the claim that THIS competition is about both beauty and brains. quite a typical question really..
you wouldn't believe whe she said next
it went something like this..

*sweet high pitched voice* i have beauty...and brain.. the others behind me.. the other contestants.. have brains.. and beauty.. so this is what makes the competition.. beauty.. and brains.. *smile smile*

so sweet of the hosts andrea de cruz and adrian pang to still respond so nicely to such fluff..

i guess she wasn't the worst of the lot..
fluff doesn't kill..you just get labelled a bimbo..which isn't as bad ( in a way) as the next contestant i'm gonna talk about..

well..she made it to the top 10 along with miss candy-voice
i don't know how they did it but they did
her question was about the recent tammy sex video and how such behaviour reflects on the mentality of the youths of singapore.

she said

"teenagers..like me ( wide bloody grin ) like to do this kind of thing.. they think it's fun.. let people see..(giggles)"

those aren't her exact words but the idea is there..at least what i thought i heard last night.
this 22 year old..first declares herself a teenager.. then practically told the entire population of singapore watching last night that she's a 'tammy' herself?!

is this the kind of role model you wanna put on tv?!
a 22 year old airhead who giggles about sex videos and calls herself a teenager? and thinks that teenage sex videos are ok?
she's entitled to her opinion..that's for sure
but i mean was she even aware of what she just said?
oh my goodness..
it doesn't get worse than that

i think the results were completed unjustified
someone tell me why carol cheong won.
was it her boobs? was it coz she was one of the viewer' favourites?
was it her somewhat resemblance to last year's winner - ms cheryl tay ? ( whom i thought deserved the crown )
she certainly didn't impress during the question and answer. i can't even remember what she said!
so WHY?

whatever happened to Zeenat Nisha? she had a nice healthy outlook and she spoke quite well..although i wasn't sure if she answered the qn.
Or viewer's favourite - Nazreena Mohamed?
Or that spunky short hair lady - Weng Yifei..the only one i remembered. she didn't even make it to top 10. and i thought she was the only one who looked like she was having fun during the part when parking lot pimp? sang while the girls "strutted their stuff" and attempt some dance moves.

i think it's time someone did something about the whole pageant
stop making it such a flesh parade
stop crowning girls that look the part
stop allowing fluff into the top 10
stop being hypocritical by labelling the competition as one of beauty and brains when it's actually mostly looks they are looking for
stop judging girls based on what the general but damn messed up ideal of beauty
long hair, boobs, skinny & smiley
if thats the case. don't bother having auditions. just grab some leggy girl on the street..intelligence is not a must..send her to beauty queen boot camp and send her off for competition.
why bother with an actual audition/judging?
